Leadership Lesson #26: Space for Grace

The simplest definition of leadership is influencing others to do something while working towards a common goal or agenda. In 2022, I’m focusing on becoming a better leader in all areas of my life. As I grow, I’m sharing lessons and stories along the way. Thanks for tuning in and I hope something I share resonates with you in your leadership (influence) journey.

As a leader, many times you find yourself working with many different people who all have different personalities, work styles, backgrounds and skill sets. It is unrealistic to expect that all of those varying pieces will automatically mesh together.  It takes grace and patience to lead. While there may be times when frustration or confusion set in, it’s wise to see people for who they are. We are all human and apt to make mistakes. Leaders must find the balance between upholding standards and expectations while offering grace and patience. It becomes difficult when you can’t find the correct balance.

Next time you’re faced with a difficult situation, find the balance and allow space for grace. It can make the difference between leading a great team and one that’s mediocre.
