I found my words

A lot of discussions are happening right now about women’s rights in the U.S. and I have found myself in a deep state of reflection on what comes next and where I see my role in this fight. Because make no mistake, we are all in this fight now whether we like it or not.

In a nation that claims the ethos of being a land of freedom, we are now staring into the face of powerful leaders who are actively working to dismantle freedoms our forefathers and foremothers fought and died for that we might have the ability to access life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

This is not a game, these are not other folks issues. The whole of what is supposed to distinguish our American experiment is fiercely at risk right here and right now.

The rights of ALL citizens of the United States to engage in free and fair elections is being threatened. Because if every citizen does not have equitable access to the process, we are all harmed.

The rights of all U.S. Citizens to engage in and support efforts to be better custodians of this fragile planet we call home are being challenged because there are parties who are resistant to federal rules that are in the best interest of protecting the health of the planet, the only one we are at present capable of living on as a species.

The rights of all women and those who are capable of becoming pregnant to have equitable access to choose the healthcare options they feel they need is in jeopardy. This is not just a women’s issue. This is a human issue. Because if every citizen does not have the ability to make the best healthcare decisions for themselves we are ALL at risk.

There is a lot going on right now that requires our care and attention as U.S. citizens. As regards this recent attack in the dismantling of the Roe v. Wade ruling, I am going to share the words of Elle Duncan, another woman who simply communicates the gravity of the situation and directly challenges us all to reflect and act.
