Working Towards Our Dreams Series – Mickey Dean

I recently had the privilege of interviewing an individual who has been a source of inspiration my entire life when it comes to chasing after my dreams. Mickey Dean left his small hometown of Sandersville, Georgia, in the late 60’s to attend college and in his own words has been “chasing after Black Power ever since”.

Many people misunderstand what the Black Power Movement meant (and continues to mean) for many African Americans and other members of the Black Diaspora. This is one of the reasons I was so happy to have a chance to sit down and talk with my elder cousin about why self determination for Black people is so important to him and how the Black Power Movement helped to shape the work of his career and service to the community.
