“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. “This is the first and great commandment. “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matt. 22: 37-40.
There are far too many of us who claim to do the first, but fail horribly at the second. We find it so much easier to love an ethereal omnipresent being that we can’t see, than to love the flesh and blood human beings that were created in the image of that same God.
I know some people make it hard to see the God in them. I imagine there are also some people who find it difficult to see God in me. There are some people who walk into a room and they radiate positive energy. I’m not that person. But I am no less an image-bearer than anyone else. You just might have to dig a bit to find the treasure hidden in some of us. Real love is a willingness to do the work.
Today’s challenge is this: Search for the image of God in someone who doesn’t wear it on their face, on their sleeve, or even around their neck. You might have to dig a bit, but be willing to do the work.
