This week’s highlight is all about dolls. Yes, I said dolls. Our Black Boy Joy is a company that makes black boy dolls so that little black boys can see themselves in plush dolls.

This company was started by 8-year-old CEO Demetrius Davis, Jr. and his mom to combat negative stereotypes of brown boys in the media. His mom taught Tamir Rice and that incident along with the highly publicized murder of George Floyd, this family spoke a lot about the need for positive representation for brown boys.

It’s hard to find dolls and stuffed items for little boys, so the availability of little plush brown boys known as My Friend that speak positive affirmations is exciting to me!
