I want to take a few minutes today to shout out a wonderful education channel on YouTube called, “Crash Course”. The team that pulls these episodes together is wonderful. One of my favorite episodes is the one that breaks down the philosophies of Booker T Washington and WEB DuBois.
This is a wonderful way to introduce this subject matter to young learners as well as some older folks who may have missed that day in class. These two men were both significant to the progression of Black Civil Rights and education/opportunity in the wake of Emancipation and Reconstruction and they have very different viewpoints as a result of their different life experiences. We should talk about them more if for no other reason to acknowledge and appreciate that “black thought” is not monolithic.
Are there amazing education channels that you enjoy that highlight things that might have been missed in history class? Feel free to drop the links in the comments.
