In the busyness of life, it’s easy to feel successful if we’ve become busy. Have you ever had those weeks where you had back-to-back meetings, work projects, children’s extracurricular activities, and never-ending family obligations? In those times, we can look at all the time we’ve spent working and doing things and feel accomplished. But there are times when we are merely working harder, doing more but accomplishing little. Having long to-do lists and items checked off a list doesn’t mean we accomplished our goals or that we were successful.
We must be careful to assess our level of busyness and see if we can work smarter and not just harder. Are there efficiencies I haven’t yet tapped into? Are there things I can delegate to others? Am I getting distracted and wasting valuable time? Am I being productive in meeting my goals?
Next time you find yourself having a really “busy” week, take a step back and see what was accomplished and if you would change anything during the next go around.
