Recently, my son had the opportunity to attend vacation bible school at another church. I asked him if he wanted to attend and he said, “No, because I don’t know anyone.” As I prepared him for the first day, he kept saying he didn’t want to go. When the time came, I dropped him off and prayed for the best. When I picked him up, I asked him how it went. He said, “It was VERY FUN!! As soon as I sat down, I met new friends.” I figured that would be the case but I was still relieved to hear it. Throughout the evening, he continued to share different experiences he had and that he couldn’t wait to go back. He even said he wanted to get there early.
This reminds me that sometimes we need a little push to enjoy something new. There is usually some discomfort in trying something different or in going somewhere you haven’t been before, but it can also end up being the best experience ever.
What experiences are you missing because you are afraid to try something new?
What limits have you accepted that have kept you from moving forward?
What nudges have you ignored that have kept you in a cycle?
What small step can you take today to experience something new?
