We’re all familiar with the tale of the “Tortoise and the Hare”. They were both in a race and the hare took off as fast as he could go. He laughed as he saw how far ahead of the tortoise he was. The hare began taking naps because he knew he would win. But the wise tortoise knew if he started slow but kept a steady pace, he would win. Sure enough, the tortoise was right. The hare expended all his energy and lost the race because he had taken too many breaks and was too tired to finish.
Many times, we feel like the tortoise. We’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing but the results are not instant. We are making slow progress. Sometimes, others are even laughing at us and passing us by. And then one day, we approach the finish line and we have completed a goal. We’ve run smack dab into our dream and the gates are no where around.
There is nothing wrong with slow progress. Progress is still progress. Doing the right thing consistently wins every time. Next time you are tempted to give up or to slow down or to take off like the hare, keep it slow and steady. Build a solid foundation and one day you’ll be living in your dreams.
