Aww!! Graduation season is among us. I love this time of year. It so awesome seeing students celebrate this momentous occasion. From kindergarten to college.

I remember my high school and college graduations as though they happened yesterday. I graduated high school in 2001. Our graduation was held outside on the football field. In Mississippi…so you know the heat was disrespectful.

I graduated top ten of my class but the memory that will stay etched in my mind is the photo of me sticking my tongue out at the principal while receiving my diploma and my grandmother yelling like it was nobody business. For the life of me I don’t know why my tongue was out while the photo was taking but it is still hilarious to me today. I wish I knew where that photo was at so I could share it with you guys.
I graduated from Mississippi Valley State in May of 2005. That was a stressful time because you didn’t know if you were cleared for graduation until the day before the ceremony.
Our valedictorian came from the Biology Department. To say we were proud was an understatement. For the last couple of years, this prestigious honor was held by a graduate from the Education Department. Our guest speaker was Earl G Graves, Sr., the founder of Black Enterprise Magazine. His message was so powerful.
I had to remind my family of my government name so they would cheer for me as I walked across the stage.

Thank you for allowing me to stroll down memory lane. Happy graduation to all the 2021 graduates. Enjoy your day to the fullest.

Happy Saturday!!
