Purging for the Next Season

Purge isn’t a pretty word.  It means “to rid of whatever is impure or undesirable; cleanse; purify or to rid, clear, or free (usually followed by of or from):”  If we want to move forward, it is imperative that we remove things we no longer need to make room for new things.  We have a limited capacity for what we can accomplish with our resources of time, talent and treasure.  If we are giving attention to things that no longer benefit us or are no longer a part of our purpose, we are willingly giving up space that is needed to move forward.

I was cleaning my son’s room and came across letter flashcards.  I remember teaching him letters over a year ago in preparation for learning how to read.  He has since learned how to read and we never got rid of the flashcards.  As I was cleaning his room, I decided to purge them.  We no longer had a need for them and they were taking up space that we could use for something else.

Many times, we find ourselves holding on to things that once served a purpose but we have outgrown those things or have moved on to other things.  It might be time for you to purge things in your mind, your life, your home, or your relationships to make room for something else that is needed in this season.

What do you need to purge?

What is holding you back from purging?
