We are born with purpose. The sooner we identify that purpose the sooner we find fulfillment and joy in our journey. Discovering “your why” is key to your success.
Finding your extrinsic and intrinsic motivating factors is also helpful. For example, if you desire to get healthier and lose 50 pounds because you want to look fantastic at your high school reunion, that is an extrinsic motivating factor. It’s something motivated from outside factors. However, if you desire to get healthier and lose 50 pounds because you want to live longer, be active with your grandchildren and generally feel better, that’s an intrinsic motivating factor. Intrinsic factors get better and more lasting results.
As you seek to accomplish your goals, dig deep and discover why you’re going after that goal. What is the “why” that is attached to it? Is it extrinsically or intrinsically motivating? How likely are you to stay committed to the goal in the long-term?
Discovering your why has powerful results. Don’t settle for anything that’s not connected to your purpose.
