Transformative Thursdays: The Blockbuster Mentality

Blockbuster was a billion dollar movie-rental company for many years.  It was a new concept at the time and one that resonated with hundreds of thousands of people. You could watch a movie in the comfort of your home for a small price.  However, another company came on the scene and began making the same product available for much less without late fees. Blockbuster didn’t adapt and change to the current needs and even passed up an opportunity to buy its competitor. Blockbuster was soon bankrupt and closed all but one of its stores. It lost its top spot in the market.

If we are not careful, we can become stuck like Blockbuster and left behind. We can miss out on the better thing that God wants to do in our lives because we are looking back at what was. We may have become complacent and unwilling to change which prevents us from moving forward.

Don’t miss what’s happening now, and the new opportunities unfolding because you can’t let go of the VHS or the cassette tape.  Everything has its place and it’s time, but when it’s time for change, be flexible and adapt.

What areas in your life do you need to adapt to something new? In what areas do you need to move forward? Are there relationships you need to leave or new ones that need to be developed? Are there new ideas God has placed on your heart but you’ve been to afraid to step out and do it?

Embrace the new. Adapt to change. Release the security of what was and hold on to the promise of what’s to come!
