Transformative Thursdays: Assessing Your Life

FAC5FE59-21DE-4ADB-AE7A-BFAEE9BC97B9Today I had the pleasure of riding in a vehicle in which the air conditioner did not work.  At first, it wasn’t too bad because I rolled the windows down thinking some air circulation was better than no air circulation.  I quickly realized, after 10 minutes of sweating through my shirt in 95 degree temperatures, this ride was going to have to be cut short.  Hot air circulation is not comfortable.  What made it worse, was knowing there is another option. I could get the air conditioner repaired and have cold air just like most everyone else.  It also made it worse because my expectation of riding in a car with cold air is normal and is what I am accustomed to.

Many of us, metaphorically speaking, are riding in cars with no working air conditioner.  We have grown accustomed to the hot air and have gotten used to taking an extra shower or two to stay clean and are used to riding with the windows down. But how much easier and more convenient would life be if we simply got the air conditioner fixed?

What areas in life have you simply accepted as “normal”? What have you grown accustomed to that may be robbing you from a better life or true happiness? In what ways have you settled for mediocrity?

Take a moment and assess if there are pieces of your life that are in need of repairing. Are you willing to work on those areas? Will your investment of time, money and energy get you to the place you really want to be? There’s no time like the present to do an assessment and make those necessary changes and adjustments. You’ll feel so much better and be better prepared to truly enjoy the ride.
