Inevitably when I coach clients, the topic of boundaries comes up. Boundaries provide lines of demarcation that protect our wellbeing. We all need them. Discovering what boundaries you need to function best is an important task. I worked with a client who had several goals for her career and family. She discovered there were certain people that distracted her from the goals and so she began setting boundaries. She limited her time with them. She limited the places she went in which she knew she would intersect paths with negative influences.
Setting boundaries is not the only thing required of us. We must be disciplined to keep those boundaries and tweak them as necessary. Sometimes, it’s also important to let others know what your boundaries are so you can be held accountable. If you’re trying to save money to buy a home, it’s important to have spending limits or boundaries. Having someone know what your spending limit is and regularly checking in with you can be valuable.
Take a moment and think about the boundaries in your life. Do you have any? What are they? Are they helping you move towards your goal? Do you need accountability? Do you need tighter boundaries?
It takes just a few minutes to set boundaries which can change your life and drastically increase your productivity.
