When life gets busy, we’re tempted to go after things—tasks, achievements, titles and money. But the older I get, I realize we must not forget about people. In the course of chasing dreams and visions, make time for people and building relationships with others. We were never created to do life alone. We were created to be in fellowship with others and to have meaningful, healthy relationships.
I’ve been guilty of pushing past people to check off another item on my to do list. Or making my kids wait until I’m finished working to ask a question. There are so many opportunities each day when we can push pause on life and share a smile, check on a friend, have coffee with a new friend or help someone in need.
We all have needs and the people we think who are “in need” are not the only ones in need. We all have issues or areas we need help and encouragement. So the next time you’re tempted to rush through life and do it alone, push pause on the chaos and take a moment to show true genuine compassion. And not compassion that gets an applause or is showcased on social media or announced at church, but compassion from the heart.
It only takes a moment to make a difference and brighten someone’s day.
