It’s not often that I quote Jay-Z lyrics. I honestly probably can only name three Jay-Z Albums, and probably only a couple of Jay Z songs. I am much more familiar with the works of his wife, but don’t think I could name many of her albums either.
But the lyric of a Carter family collaboration has recently caught my ear. I’m not going to lie. I may have sung along to this song a few times and had no idea what they were talking about. I had to google Audemars Piguet, and when I did, I darn near threw my phone. People are really out here buying hundred thousand dollar watches? I’m just trying to figure out how to pay off our student loans, and keep my kids from having to take out their own loans.
I’m operating on eye-level tasks. I’m just trying to make sure the dishes are done, the beds are made and everybody gets some dinner. And honestly, I can’t even keep up with that stuff. My laundry is piled up in a corner. Every single surface in my house could use a good cleaning.
But I am grateful that I’m not operating alone. I have someone on my side whose sole desire is to upgrade my life, to make it better, and to introduce me to new things. He is working on high level. Picture your life elevated with Him. I certainly do.
So yeah, it’s not often that I go around quoting the Roc Nation pioneer, but I wonder how often the rapper goes around paraphrasing the prophet Isaiah.
““For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways.”
I might pay closer attention to his lyrics if he did.
Anyway, I recently found myself praying for some eye-level blessings, only to have my prayers answered in ways I never would have imagined. A true upgrade changes not just the way things look and feel, but changes how you see the world. That’s the upgrade I truly seek.
P.S. How is this video more hood than the ” Soldier” video? Someone please explain!
