Here’s a quick recap of my sample quick tips. Remember to keep submitting questions and I will endeavor to find answers for you.

QUICK TIP #1: ACCESS YOUR LIBRARY’S LITERACY PROGRAM

📚

Most public libraries offer free literacy programs to assist children in learning to read at grade level. Contact your public library today!

QUICK TIP #2: COMMUNICATING WITH CHILDREN

👧🏽👦🏻🧒🏾👧🏼

___

Children in most cases are natural communicators. However, some adults are not comfortable when it comes to having a conversation with a four-year-old. If this applies to you, here are some ideas you might try:

___

📖Read a book and ask the child questions about the story. That should give you a good back and forth discussion about the story characters and events.

___

🚙Take a trip to the grocery store, post office or other community location and discuss what goes on at those places and why they are useful to your family and others.

___

🗣Set aside time in the evenings to talk about your day. Share events from your job, volunteer work or other activities and allow your child to do the same about school, daycare or wherever they spent the day.

___

These prompts should get you talking and lead to additional opportunities to keep the conversation flowing.

___

What ways have you found that work well when communicating with your children?

QUICK TIP #3: LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

___

😃 You’ll be amazed how much learning is embedded in everyday play activities that will boost your child’s brain power, self-esteem and absolute love for learning!

___

🌿🐛Provide outdoor time and opportunity to explore nature from plants to bugs to other creatures with whom we share the planet.

___

👩🏾‍🎨Engage in indoor activities from Play-Doh sculpting, painting, crafting, and more to get those artistic juices flowing.

___

👨🏻‍🍳Pretend or actual cooking experiences help your children learn how to count, sequence, follow directions and create tasty things to eat.

___

🙇🏾‍♀️Help build your children’s confidence by trying these three tips:

___

🔎Pay attention to the work your children bring home. Look at it and engage with them.

___

👏🏾Compliment what they have done well and lovingly point out areas where they need to improve.

___

🎭Attend your children’s school functions. Just showing up speaks volumes about how much you respect and care for them and the work they do.

QUICK TIP #5: ENCOURAGING LITERACY IN CHILDREN
