Purpose is the thing for which you are placed on earth to do. You have a special knack for it and it seems easy because you have a gift for it. It brings joy to you and help to others.
As I pondered again, what is my mission and my purpose, a podcast mentioned asking yourself this question. “What do people thank you for?” That gives insight into your purpose.
Why is it important to know your purpose? I like to think of it this way. When you have a specific purpose for going to the mall or a mission, you typically stick to that. When I’m going to the mall to purchase a dress for a special occasion, and nothing more, I am more likely to go to the mall, find my dress and leave. However, when I am just going to window shop, there will be many distractions along the way. Every sale sign will call my name. The smells of the food will draw my attention. The people sitting, standing and walking will grab my attention. There will be many distractions and I’ll probably spend money on something, and that being something I do not necessarily need.
Knowing your purpose keeps you focused, fulfilled and free.
- You can limit distractions because you know exactly what you are here to do.
- You have joy because you are serving your mission and nothing can take its place.
- You can live without limit and bondage as you give your whole self to purpose.
Have you discovered your purpose? What is it that people thank you for? Do that and you will find focus, fulfillment and freedom!
