I Gotta Be Me

Don’t you just hate those Ted Talks that make you cry? America really went there on me over one of my favorite topics, identity.

Seriously, I “love” this topic So much that one might argue that it informs every scholar-ish work that I have ever written.

I have been trying to figure out who I am my whole life.

And truthfully, so have you.

But what America did here that was so special is that she called out the oxymoronic irony of being a person who wants and believes in change for the betterment of society while also being that same person who bends and breaks themselves to be in position to have access to the power to change things.

From this posture, we social order warriors often lose ourselves to the process.

How can we advocate for change within a system that requires that we break ourselves to even get in the door?
