What’s Happening Wednesday: Come Alive

About a year ago, I changed my alarm clock song.  I had been waking up to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.”  It was an attempt to set my mood for the day.  Some days it worked better than others.

More recently, I switched to “Come Alive” from The Greatest Showman soundtrack.  This song is not only designed to get you up and moving, it’s also clearly designed to motivate your mind.  It talks about bringing your dreams to fruition, and making the world a more colorful place.

Why am I telling you all that?  Because I did not hear my alarm go off this morning.  My husband did, however, and he was less than thrilled with the sound of Hugh Jackman’s singing voice at 4:30AM.  He made it clear that he definitely preferred the sultry sounds of Nina Simone than the jaunty show tunes he heard coming from the other room this morning.

I laughed.  Both songs have a similar message.  One says appreciate the world around you.  The other says make the world around you better than it is.  Isn’t that all being a Christian is?  Appreciating what we’ve been blessed with and trying to make the world better by doing good, serving others, and pointing to the way of salvation.

Oh, that the church would “Come Alive”.  I think we’d all be “Feeling Good” about that.

My prayer is that we all find a way to do both today.
