Therapeutic Tuesday: Chase, Stalk, Jump, Slay

1 Peter 5:8 – Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I am speaking at a United Youth event tomorrow and I have no idea what I am speaking about, but I have been thinking about dreams lately. Maybe I’ll speak on dreams. And if I speak on dreams, then I will probably use the book Chase the Lion as a backdrop for what I talk about. The more that I think about it, though, I can think of a different slant for this talk.

The verse that I referenced above in 1 Peter is an oft-used verse telling us to be watchful. Satan is like a lion. I think, though, that sometimes that context is also used to scare us.

“Keep away from that lion, Satan.”

“Satan is gonna catch you and kill your joy!”

Not in every sense, but many times, that verse can create fear if not used in the right light. Which is where Chase the Lion comes in. See, Benaiah saw the lion, and he did not run. He stalked the lion. He found the lion. He jumped down into a pit and fought that lion. The lion probably scratched him a few times, but in the end, Benaiah slayed that lion. He killed it. He didn’t run from it.

Where dreams are concerned, we can’t passively pursue them. We have to stalk them like Benaiah stalked that lion. They have to be important enough to us that we are willing to go through the lions in our lives in order to achieve them. Too many times we take the stance that if it is going to happen, it will happen. I would venture to say that we place the onus for our dreams coming true on God, when God has given us the power to bring them to pass.

Accomplishing dreams takes courage. It takes a single-minded pursuit. It takes an understanding of how your dream is not just for you, but for others as well. All of those factors, put together, should give us the conviction to push and press. And they should cause us to be willing to go through any lion standing in our way.

So yeah, that lion (Satan) is standing in the way of you accomplishing your dreams. Sure, Satan is in the way of your financial health. Satan is standing in the way of your healing. Satan is standing in the way of you LIVING!

It’s time to quit running. Stop being stalked and chased and go on the offensive! Chase that lion. Stalk that lion. Jump down into the pit with that lion.

And then SLAY THAT LION!!!
