Transformative Thursdays: Gaining a Fresh Perspective from My Gym Membership

A few days ago, I purchased a gym membership and started my new workout routine.  It’s been about 3 years since I’ve had a gym membership so I’m pretty excited.  Being able to go to the gym has created a renewed passion for getting into shape and developing a more healthy lifestyle.  Over the last three years, I’ve run quite a bit.  But towards the end of last year, it was difficult to find the motivation to run. Maybe it was the cooler weather, the rain or getting busier at work.  Whatever the case, I fell off my ‘running wagon’.
Sometimes, we need variety.  We become tired of doing the same routine.  Mixing things up forces us to use different skill sets, and in many cases, get different results. When I’m running, I exercise certain muscles but going to the gym and using weights allows me to work different muscles.  Although I can still run on the treadmill, I’m not limited by just running.  I have more options.  It’s good from time to time to change your routine, try a different recipe, fellowship with a different group, or visit a new country.  All of these experiences provide fresh perspectives and opportunities for us to grow.
The best commitment we can make for ourselves is to become life-long learners in which we continuously seek knowledge through new experiences.  Don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a rut, limited by your small world.  Go outside of the box and embrace change.  Maybe it is time for you to stop running and to get a gym membership!
