Social media has been buzzing with “Goodbye 2017” “New Year New Me” or “No Baggage in 2018”. All these posts and many others have been like or shared but have people really taken to heart what their new year’s resolutions will be or are we saying these things because it is what is expected this time of year.
According to dictionary.com, resolution can have varying meanings dependent on the situation but the one that stood out to me the most was:
-
a resolve; a decision or determination:
-
the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose:
I have made New Year resolutions like everyone else and like everyone else I have failed to meet those resolutions. Why? Honestly for me they had no true foundation. No purpose. No timeframe. They were merely words spoken out load but had no accountability behind them at all.
I’ve been in a rut lately and I am determined to change the perspective of my life right now. I’ve resolved that I am going to work on my resolutions (goals) and actually see some results.
My goals have been written down and given to my accountability partner. I’ve actually met one of my goals before the new year. It was to lose 20 pounds by December 31st. Yay me (note to self make sure you keep the momentum).
So how do ensure that your 2018 resolutions or goals (that sounds better) are kept? Here how I plan to keep my goals for 2018:
1. Write them down.
2. Share my goals with my accountability partner.
3. Set timelines to my goals. Readjust as needed.
4. Celebrate every victory.
5. Don’t focus on the set backs. Immediately get back on track.
6. Research how others did it.
7. Start my day off with prayer, reflection, and a plan.
Hope everyone 2018 is off to a great start!!!
Happy Saturday. Hopefully my words spoke to you today 😁.
