So I love moments when I can sit around with my friends, eat some good food, and have great conversation. This past Thursday I was able to have this after being off from work one day and come back into craziness.
Conversations among mixed gender company always bring out different emotions and thoughts. And of course the topic of relationships will be sure to come up. This particular day the question of how to date in 2017 came up. Now I am on the edge of my seat waiting for a response because as a single woman I need to know the answers and I definitely want to hear the response from a guy’s perspective. Well no “aha” answer came out of the initial query. The conversation continued on and the topic of being in a “situation-ship” was brought up. These are relationships defined as having no title but all the workings and expectations of an actual relationship. As the conversation continues one particular statement jumped up and bit me:
Sometimes your best ability is availability.
Now that statement stopped me dead in my tracks. To say I was intrigued was an understatement. Those six simple words can be interpreted a number of ways, but in the context of our conversation you couldn’t help but look at “availability” in the worse type of way.
I firmly believe that when someone is building a relationship with anther person, each person brings their strengths to the table. Those strengths not only help the relationship, but they help both partners inspire each other to become better in weaker areas of their lives. Just to be available to someone without substance is just as bad as being unavailable.
I could really go on about this statement, but I will leave it here for now. This was my first thought that came to mind and trust I can see the positive aspect of it. I’d love to hear from you on what you think about availability in this context.
