I AM ABOUT TO MAKE SOME FOLKS UNCOMFORTABLE.
Many people are very upset with Kim Burrell for what she said in her sermon recently. The scriptures do not need defending and we ALL KNOW that people pick and chose what scriptures they want to live by. When the scriptures on a particular topic are shared, is the person judging you or sharing with you what the “word of God” says on that topic? I have found that in this day and time, many people get really sensitive when they a…re faced with an uncomfortable topic that affects many people that they know. SUDDENLY THEY MUST TAKES SIDES. This is not true. As ministers of the Gospel of Christ, we are to preach the gospel in season and out of season. Kim Burrell was preaching something that fell in the catagory of “out of season.” The word tells us that “WE HAVE ALL SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD” and “YE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE.” Again, if I am telling you what the scriptures THAT YOU SAY YOU BELIEVE IN, says on a particular topic, AM I JUDGING OR INFORMING? Galations 5:19-21 reads, “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” That covers more than homosexuality doesn’t it? GOD HATES SIN PERIOD BUT HE LOVES THE SINNER! When we are “INFORMING” others what the word of God says about ALL OF OUR SINS, we should share it in love. Clearly someone in the congregation when Minister Burrell was preaching DISAGREED with how she broke down her interpretation of what the word of God says about the topic of homosexuality. THERE ARE NO BIG SINS OR LITTLE SINS. NO SIN IS GREATER THAN THE OTHER. Now, agree or not, the scriptures, which Christians say they believe were written by men who were divinely inspired by God, are the words of God. We, HUMAN BEINGS, get things twisted. That’s why it is dangerous to throw in what we think the Bible means rather than just providing WHAT the scripture says and letting the individual SEEK UNDERSTANDING FOR THEMSELVS FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE ALL MUST STAND BEFORE GOD AND BE JUDGED FOR OUR SINS. Minister Burrell was sharing, in her way, what the scriptures says about the sin of homosexuality. The scripture also speaks to the sins of fornication, idolatory, deceit, murder, orgies, drunkenness, etc. As long as man lives, the choice to pick and choose what guidelines of the Bible he wants to live by will occur. THIS HAPPENS IN ALL RELIGIONS THAT HAVE GUIDELINES THAT GO AGAINST WHAT SOCIETY SAYS IS ACCEPTABLE AND NORMAL.
So, for those who say that Kim Burrell is judging them, lest you forget that you are judging her. AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD and strive to follow HIS WORD as we GROW IN GRACE AND KNOWLEDGE.
