Have no fear, Dr. Marta is here sharing a new book every day right up until Christmas! Check my Facebook page daily for a new Christmas-themed book to add to your must have shopping list.

TITLE: CENDRILLON: A CARIBBEAN CINDERELLA

AUTHOR: ROBERT D. SAN SOUCI

ILLUSTRATOR: BRIAN PINKNEY

DESCRIPTION: A thrilling version of this timeless story breathes new life through the vivid color and lyrical voice of the enchanting Caribbean isles.

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK: It is a thrill any time we are able to see ourselves in classic stories which have been passed down through generations. We know Cinderella most often as a lovely blonde with blue eyes and fair skin. However, countless cultures share the same story and this time we see our main character in the most radiant and beautiful brown sugar hues. I hugged this book to my chest the first time I saw it. It took all my might to resist shouting out loud “I am a princess too!” Much needed validation and exhilaration awaits little girls of all ages whose hearts and minds need to see their true beauty and treasure how special and precious they are!
