DESCRIPTION: A young couple expresses their sincere love and warm delight at the arrival of their brand new baby. Lyrical wording and luxurious illustrations depict the beauty of life and the love of family surrounding this special gift. You feel the joy, peace and pleasure found in simple activities like a child’s bath, trips around the neighborhood and the smiles and hugs from loving relatives.

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK: Nikki Grimes word poem creates a marvelous picture of family and loving relationships that all children deserve and which all parents should emulate. The child in this story is clearly wanted and received as a joy-filled gift. The strong two parent family depiction models what families should aspire to. Other relatives spread throughout the story show appreciation for this little one from cousins to a tummy tickling grandma “giddy” with happiness. Multiple pictures of father and child give us visions of true manhood so beneficial and needed throughout our community. The illustrations of Bryan Collier cap this story with radiance and beauty so powerful the pages literally sparkle. A great opportunity to celebrate the family bond awaits the readers of this book. Be sure to enjoy with your little one as they listen and realize that they too are precious!
