Transformative Thursdays:Finding the Good

In every situation, there’s something to complain about and something to be thankful for. Many times, we dwell on the complaining part rather than the other part. Life is not so much what happens to you, but how you react to it. It takes discipline to find the GOOD (and God) in every situation and shake off the bad. It makes for a much happier and contented life.

Last year, my husband missed our Valentine’s Day plans & my birthday celebration (it’s on Valentine’s Day) because of circumstances beyond his control. I could have been upset and let him have it and given him the silent treatment for days or whatever it is wives do when they are disappointed. BUT I took a step back and let him off the hook because it’s just a day on the calendar and we can celebrate any time. And we did.

How many times do we make a situation worse by focusing on the bad, the hurt, the disappointment, etc? If we take a moment and look at the good (I’m still happy married, my husband provides for us, he’s a good father, etc), the bad quickly pales in comparison.

Your situation may be a little more devastating like your husband leaving you, or your best friend stabbing you in the back, or your child running away from home, but if you take a moment, you can find good in any situation. Finding the good helps you avoid unneeded stress and drama in your life. We can rest in God’s care knowing He sees the big picture and has everything under control! So during this season of “thanks” and “giving” (thanksgiving), let’s be mindful to count our blessings and focus on the good.
