Welcome to something different. I have agreed to step into this Tuesday slot instead of sharing Wednesdays with the uber talented Gabi Radford. When I thought about what I wanted to do with this slot, I arrived at the conclusion that I’ll just keep following my muse. Topics may change weekly, but I think that this is my honest place. This is Therapy for my heart, mind, and soul.
Tonight, my wife and I were talking to our children about the recent attacks in Paris, Kenya, Beirut, and other locales around the globe. Today the social media newsfeeds were filled with Governors and State Reps saying that they would not be taking in any Syrian refugees. It is an utterly exhausting conversation. My problem with this entire thing is that it breeds an atmosphere of fear. People are speaking on things openly without considering the ramifications of their words. What if we were the refugees, trying to escape America, and a few of us chose to commit some terroristic acts on foreign soil. Would we want our children left to die because a few idiots chose to condemn themselves? Watching the news and seeing so many families having to endure the atrocities that they don’t want their children to have to endure..well, it breaks my heart. There had to be a way to beef up background checks. Or maybe there is no way. All I know is that God, in his history of being, has never turned any one of us away, even those of us who have meant his name harm. He has welcomed us with open arms, no matter how many times we commit horrible deeds in his name. He just says come, but we say go.
I don’t know the answers. I see both sides of the issues. What I do know is that there has to be a way to save those who really need to be saved. There has to be a way for us to have educated conversations about the best courses of action. Terrorism is not going anywhere. This world is eroding. Moral fibers are breaking daily. What we need is love.
Until next time, fam.
