Perhaps it is because I was raised by a mother who started talking to us about sex at a young age but I don’t understand the contradiction in the U.S.’s practice of the cultural repression of sexual expression in individuals and yet the practice of using sexual images of women to sell things.
It’s taboo to speak of sex, let alone sex between partners of the same sex – we tell children to not express themselves sexually but bombard them with images of sex on TV, in radio announcements, on billboards, basically anywhere they can look.
What happens to the children who wait until marriage to have sexual intercourse just to find out their spouse aren’t sexually compatible? What happens to the couples who view sex as what porn makes it out to be and feel there is something wrong with them when it isn’t?
As a person who rebelled against the way the media sells sex and how families attempt to repress it and as someone who has been sexually active for 13 years I find that one can experience many different types of sex via different partners and even with the same partner depending where you are in your life. Sex isn’t an act that can experienced the same every time nor is the outcome always going to be the same although one tries to with the end goal in mind.
I think if our society would make the topic of sex less taboo then honesty about sex and sexuality would/might occur. There would be less repressed people in relationships and perhaps, just perhaps less drama in relationships. Who knows.
