Over the last week, I’ve had to deal with the death of my beloved father. He was a college music professor, worship leader, renowned singer, but most importantly, he was my dad. There was never a day that went by when we were growing up that he didn’t tell us he loved us. Not only did he tell us he loved us, but he showed it by hugging and kissing us everyday and providing for us. He cooked breakfast every morning, read a devotional and prayed with us. To others, he was a mentor, leader, friend, confidante, pastor, colleague, and visionary. He traveled the world, was an expert in his field and touched countless people’s lives with his warm smile and gentle nature. I can honestly say that he lived life to the fullest. I literally had to walk very fast to keep up with him when we were walking together. He had a passion for life and always made time to help others. I inherited that same passion and enjoy helping others. He was also an avid reader, reading at least one book a month. He would often tell me to “stay the course” and not give up. I would tell him to “fight the good fight of faith” which he did. In my last conversation with him, I told him “I love you and I’ll see you next time…” I can honestly say I have no regrets. I’ve reflected so much on a life well spent and the legacy of an awesome man of God. His legacy makes me want to live life all the more and fulfill my destiny so I can hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
