It’s Kwanzaa Time! The week between Christmas and New Years’s Day is one of my favorite times of the year. I use this time to reflect on who I am,where I am going. More importantly, Kwanzaa allows me time reflect on community.
I think about how far we’ve come and how far we have to go.
I think about the big, big world, and my small circle of influence.
I think about how fast things are changing and how much they’ve stayed the same.
This Kwanzaa, I am challenged because I feel like my contributions are paltry. I could’ve done more. I should have done more. But Kwanzaa is NOT about what I did or did not do… But it’s about all of us.
As we gather around the Harambee Circle this year, I am keenly aware of the strength I pull from the circle. I am so grateful to stand in the company of this great community. There are amazing artists, Biblical scholars, creative geniuses, and drum majors for justice. It is an honor to be counted amongst them.
This year in the Harambee circle, as we hold hands, I know our heritage and our hereafter are intertwined as well. So this year, as we shout Harambee, join with me in whispered prayer that we stay connected to Our God, to Our Cause, and to one another.
Harambee!
