These are the first words I’ve written in a week. They are also some of the first words I’ve read all week. I have no idea what’s happening on the news. I don’t really know what happened in Paris. I’ve been living in a bubble.
There was a death in the family. I wasn’t close to this family member, but his passing has caused my life to come to a halt. He was in the middle of a move. He’d just bought a house for his wife and his disabled grandson. Their stuff is scattered between the two houses. They were living out of boxes.
This has made me realize how unprepared I am. Life happens. Death happens. It will happen to us all, we ought to get ready. I’m not talking about making your peace with God and man.(Though, you should definitely do that.) I’m talking about putting your house in order:
* Getting a will.
*Making sure the pertinent people know what your wishes are in case you die.
* Making sure your spouse, or someone close to you knows where you keep important papers.
While we were at the funeral home viewing the body of the deceased, my father-in-law walked into the funeral home by coincidence. He was making his last payment on his pre-need burial plan.
I cannot tell you how much I love and appreciate this man. He has been wonderful, especially to my children. He’s been a huge supporter of my husband. But this last gift is overwhelming. I darn near hugged him and kissed him at the funeral home. ( I’m not big on hugs and kisses, except from my children, and on occasion, my hubby).
His house is in order. Forgive the mess I make as I try to get my own house together.
So no. I don’t know what happened in Paris. Nope. Don’t know what Congress is doing. Nope, I don’t have any more words written on Nanowrimo. No, I didn’t wash my dishes before bed last night. I was busy washing dishes at my relatives house. But as a result, I will do my dead-level best to make sure that nobody else will have to clean up after me when I’m gone.
That’s a promise to myself, and all my loved ones. In the meanwhile, I’ve got more packing and unpacking to do.
You probably do to.
