Ok, so I’m gonna go ahead and rub some people the wrong way but I refuse to engage and support movies that continuously depict a race and culture of people particularly my own that follows this particular movie flow:
–topic of racial inequality (we’re living that now so no need to feed me with more of it),
–the theme is we shall overcome SOMEDAY (apparently in these movies we didn’t then COLLECTIVELY and we haven’t now, therefore we need to be reminded),
–Oprah somehow is in it slapping somebody (lol),
–constant reminders of the Willie Lynch strategy, plays with my emotions (happy, sad, angry, furious- in that order), and doesn’t provide a clear cut solution on how to upgrade from the activism of then to today.
I just can’t infiltrate my being with this but if you feel that just because it is a black/African American movie and you gotta support it then be my guest.
