My younger brother is slightly obsessed with otters. I don’t blame him as they are cute to look at. The other day we got into a ridiculous conversation about rewriting Lord of the Rings with otters as warriors. I am going to pause here and let you imagine that and how amazing that that movie adaption of the book would be.
In our conversation it became apparent how abundant otter memes are. Memes to me are such a mixed media expression of our time. Growing up I remember people placing stickers on pictures to create a story within the visual representation of an event. Now with technology and digital film this visual literacy form of expression just demonstrates the different interpretations of possible stories of a picture; a frozen moment in time. I wonder how this will continue to evolve and I also wonder if this will be considered to be an artistic form of expression in the years to come.
