What’s Happening Wednesday:

It has been quite a year. So much has happened in 2020 that it is hard to remember it all. You can find year-end recaps all over Al Gore’s internet, so I’m not going to take up the little space I have to remind you about what has already happened. Instead, I want to talk about what’s to come.

We often use the calendar as our reset button. We let go of the disappointments, and begin the new year with hope. We create vision boards and set new goals. I love turning the page on the calendar and starting with a clean slate.

But let’s be honest. When the clock strikes midnight on Thursday/Friday morning, our troubles aren’t all going to disappear. Coronavirus will still be wreaking havoc on our communities. Our bills will still be due. Donald Trump will still be president. But on the positive side, our God will still be on the throne.

2020 was a year of multiple transitions. Things changed so quickly. One day, we were commuting to work, and the next, we were working from home. Some of us have changed jobs. Others of us have lost our jobs completely. It’s hard to find steady footing when things are constantly changing.

An old hymn says, “Build your hopes on things eternal.” I just wanted to remind you, that as the calendar changes, and as things around you seem different than what you’re used to, that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever more. (Hebrews 13:8)

You can build your hopes on him.
